Peaceful Grey Lake
Oil on Canvas 18" x 48"
There is something peaceful about a still lake and the irony of a sail boat drifting in the doldrums. A slow and steady forward progression with no specific destination in sight but the knowledge that land and safety are near by.
This piece felt like it should be painted in black and white because of the overall tone of the imagery. The gradated shades of grey speak to all the different spaces between the black and white of life. The serenity for the passenger on the boat and the quietness of the day would likely be the reason for their isolation. Sitting on the sail boat with nothing but a slight breeze, they must be seeking solitude and embracing the temporary loneliness.
