Red Brick Wall
Oil on Canvas 36" x 60"
I really enjoy texture and the randomness that can be found in the organized patterns. Trying to capture this quality while still creating something recognizable was a challenge I've been wanting to undertake for quite some time. I'd also been wanting to explore limiting myself to creating something with only a palette knife – this is my first attempt.
The piece was has overlapping use of reds, purples, pinks and oranges to create a brick like texture. It takes on a more recognizable look from a distance but up close, the interplay between all the various warm colors makes it feel a little more abstract. The piece is also quite large and when you stand up close to it, it give the sense to the viewer that they are much smaller, almost child like.
