Fields & Trees
Oil on Canvas 18" x 48"
It’s a dream of mine to have a cabin to escape from everything. Whether that cabin is in the mountains, on a lake, or surrounded by trees and fields, as long as there is a peaceful place for me to shed my worries and fears, I will be happy. I like dreaming of these small hideaways because even though they are just a dream, I find myself shedding some of those heavy thoughts.
Vertical orientations are always a little tricky when creating a landscape. The bulk of the piece feels missing. I wanted to try and break this up into spaces of color to see if the intentional blocking would create a unique feeling. The heavier ground sits in the bottom third and is then broken up into near halves to create sixths of the canvas. This leaves the top two thirds for the lighter atmosphere and in a way makes the piece feel less heavy. I wanted the heaviest part of the piece to sit off the base of the canvas to create a small break in the expected while still achieving a sense of reality.
