Oil on Canvas 72" x 60"
Being at the lakes has always been a peaceful place in my life and there is nothing quite like a perfect glass lake reflecting the evening clouds rolling in. Looking out across at the horizon gives you a sense of a never ending world split by life. The easy stillness washes over you and there is a deep feeling of balance. I've often wished to find a permanent place like this that I can view every waking moment of my life.
A slightly off balanced composure but the idea of everything in balance gives this piece it's unquie characteristics. The horizon line sits just below the mid point vertically and the gap in the tree line is intentionally pushed to the right by just a hair to subtly cause some visual break. The piece's elements however still find balance in the reflection of the sky on the lake and the seemingly equal amount of trees if the view plane were to be pushed to the right more. The palette knife technique imployed gives this piece a rough detail up close but when the view steps back, the overall work congeals and vision is complete.
