Storm on the Right
Oil on Canvas 48" x 24"
Storms have always interested me. Their ability to build and grow to the point that they take over the sky has made me stop in wonderment. I remember when I first moved out to Colorado, I was walking to my car and I saw something like what is depicted build and move out over the plains. What must that have looked like from those on the other side, standing in the fields, waiting for the inevitable to pass overhead. I can imagine it feeling both awesome and intimidating.
Five layers of clouds, getting lighter and moving from left to right, drives the viewers eyes from a place of peaceful blue bird skies to an area of turmoil and activity. That directional movement gives the overall piece a sense of actual movement towards the left as the clouds are almost ready to swallow the sun whole. There is a slight sense of a shadow as the sunlight fights to leave an impression on the clouds and the fields below but it is a losing struggle.
