Oil on Canvas 96" x 36"
This piece was suggested by a few family members who have recently purchased a slice of heaven in Silverthorn, CO. My fiancé and I have been fortunate to visit with them multiple times over the pandemic and we've witnessed the beauty and serenity as the sun sets over the three mountain ridge to the west. The view is expansive and so I wanted to push myself to create a similarly expansive piece. This being my widest piece to date, it's an accomplishment I am very proud to have completed.
There is a lot going on in this piece that is gigantic. The depth needed to frame the relative location of the three different mountins layered with the need to convey the time of the day and the location of the perspective meant that there was constant evaluations happening to make sure everything worked out in the end. Additionally, because the spacial relationship was so important, I approached this piece in a new way. Creating an underpainting first to help map the location of the shadows, the peaks, and the rolling hills below was crucial to it's success. See my instagram account for photos that document my progress.
