Low Clouds in Brooklyn

My brother Tim lives in Brooklyn and I promised a painting as a wedding present to him and his wife Sunny. When asked what he wanted the painting to be of, he requested something from the city he has called home for nearly a decade. There are many iconic buildings and landscapes that have been created countless times by artist but the Brooklyn Bridge seemed to resonate most with him. He also suggested that if I painted the bridge, the hipsters would reach out desperate for a painting as well.
Achieving the misty effect that we all associate with fog is a challenge when only using a palette knife to paint. Delicate and light strokes were required to create the foundation of the bottom portion of the painting. The harshness of the bridge structures help in giving the low clouds an even greater lightness because of the juxtaposition of the two opposite elements. Lastly, the dark and almost dirty nature of the bridge stands out and gives the bricks a sense of age and rigidity that contrast the temporary fog that will only last so long.

During the day I'm around but may be in meetings, working on a new painting, or just not available. If I don't answer, I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
