Winter Feels
Oil on Canvas 36" x 60"

I live on the front range of the rocky mountains where winter is a yearly period of change that most embrace with excitement and joy. As the winter season approaches, the visual changes in the natural world around me slowly move to a more bleak and monotone appeal. There is an abundance of color to be found when the world shifts from a warm and vibrant summer to a cold and simple winter. Color comes from the absolutely striking blue skies and the peaks of yellows, red, and oranges reflected back up at you when the sun peaks from the east.
Harsher blending techniques in addition to large strokes with the palette knife bring forward the painterly feel and impressionistic feels of the snow and the sun rise. Completed all in one sitting, the blending of the colors and the stark hard white line of the snow presented a slight challenge.
